Qi Gong is a system of exercises, which often uses slow graceful movements and controlled breathing techniques to promote the circulation of qi within the human body, and enhance a practitioner's overall health.
This particular system started in Tibet. Even today, we teach the same ancient knowledge, but some of it has been adjusted to take into account the ways of life of our present day.

'Qi Gong' literally translates as 'energy work'
There are aspects of Qi Gong which are quite similar to Tai Chi, and it comes from the same ancient origins. But the movements are simpler and there is no need to remember a long sequence moves.
Some Benefits:
Improved circulation
Relaxation and release of stress.
Increased energy levels
Improved balance and posture
Increase breathing capacity
Increased freedom of movement
Joy and well-being
Many people find that practicing Qi Gong exercises can help them feel lighter, more vibrant and more in touch with inner well-being and joy.

What is involved?
Part of the system comprises of a series of exercises which are designed to encourage energy to move through the body to help keep it healthy. The qualities we are looking for in Qi Gong are sense of spontanaeity and playfulness, while encouraging the body to become more supple and flexible.
We couple this with some of the basic principles of Qi Gong such as stretching and relaxing muscles to help open the joints in the body and the lengthening of the spine, and moving with gentle, rhythmic motions, and connecting with our breathing we can bring about significant changes in the body as well as a deep sense of relaxation and well being.
The Enjoyment Factor - one can see why the ancient masters put an emphasis on the importance of smiling and enjoying ourselves!
Now that we know of the beneficial effect of endorphins, which bring about well being as they are released into the body,we can see why.

Practicing these Qi Gong exercises also encourages the circulation of energy, blood and lymphatic fluids around the body. They are also very beneficial for the spine and joints of the body. As the body becomes more flexible and open, stale energy can move out of the body and fresh energy can move through.
Qi Gong can benefit everyone and can be used to address a wide range of health issues. Practicing for even a relatively short period of time can bring about significant benefits. It can also aid anyone interested in pursuing personal or spiritual development to a deeper level.
Qi Gong and the Modern Lifestyle
While an ancient practice, Qi Gong has the ability to address health issues that are very specific to our modern age. While modern medicine is able to identify a huge range of ailments, it cannot always provide solutions to problems associated with lack of exercise or poor body posture.
Qi Gong can prove a great solution to these problems, helping lengthen the spine, open joints, relieving tension and strengthening back muscles. The exercises are gentle yet powerful, incorporating simple standing movements and breath, bringing a general sense of ease – a great antidote to the stresses and complexities of modern life!
Thoughts on Energy Flow
Since the basic component in the universe is energy and, as beings made of energy, our bodies are designed to have this energy always flowing smoothly and in balance. The energy flows through the energy channels, or meridians in the body. Blockages can occur in this energy flow, most commonly brought about by stress or emotional issues and sickness can manifest. Qi Gong exercises are specifically designed to help free up any energy blockages, thereby addressing the route causes not just the symptoms. The aim is to help you live the most joyful and rewarding life possible.
