Alexander Technique Small Group Course

More Information about the Course

An opportunity to learn how you can apply Alexander Technique principles to different areas of your life.  Learn ways to prevent the build up of tension or strain, increase your awareness and find out how you can use yourself in new ways, lengthen your spine, release tight muscles and develop a sense of ease in movement and activity.  Once learned, the Alexander Technique can provide a structure allowing for improved well-being with lasting effects.  This small group setting will allow for weekly practice of the Alexander Method with some opportunity for individual requested activities and working ‘hands on’ one to one.

A Preventative Approach

Effectively look after our selves can mean greatly reducing the stresses and strains we put on our bodies.  As we improve our ‘use’ and become more aligned and in balance, we will naturally engage appropriate muscles and avoid excess tension – resulting in improvements in our overall well-being.

The Technique can also help us increase our awareness of how we respond to things around us and how we can make conscious choices which can reduce our levels of stress and help us think and operate in a more integrated way.   With continued practice the Alexander method can empower us to make tremendous changes in our lives and is a very practical approach to improving everyday levels of well-being.

Procedures for Optimal Body Balance and Freedom in Movement

When we achieve better body balance & alignment we naturally hold ourselves more freely with the appropriate tone in our muscles.  Exercises or 'procedures' will be used to encourage your body to release unnecessary tension and hold yourself well, as well as to encourage efficient breathing and freedom in movement.

Increased Awareness of our ‘use’.  We can become more conscious of how we use our minds and how this impacts on our bodies and the way we feel.   We can apply this awareness to any activity we do E.g. sitting at a computer, driving, playing a musical instrument, carrying bags etc. Or  you may wish to generally improve the way you stand and walk or achieve a better sleeping position.

Qi Gong Exercises

Qi Gong shall be included as part of the course as it is a great form of exercise to apply Alexander Technique Principles and gain further benefit.  These simple exercises are specifically designed to help open joints the body as well as lengthen the spine, helping energy flow more easily.
